Sol2023 Games Baton: Last Stop Guadalcanal Province – Epic Journey Nears Its End!

Guadalcanal is the last place the games baton will go before heading back to the national stadium for the opening ceremony.

Yesterday, the GOC community engagement team met with representatives from the Guadalcanal provincial headquarters to officially hand over the baton. This marks the commencement of its tour around Guadalcanal this week.

The baton will complete an eight-day tour around the Guadalcanal province before making its way back to Honiara.

Last week, the Games baton visited its eighth province, Malaita, where it journeyed through various locations, including the Lau region, Maluú, Basikana island, Oo’one village in North Malaita Region, Afio station, Walande in South Malaita, West and East Areare, Langalanga Lagoon, Atoifi East Kwaio, and Auki, which serves as the provincial center of Malaita Province.

Preparations are underway in Honiara for the final leg of the baton’s journey around Honiara city and its outskirts. It will finish with its entry into the national stadium on the 19th of November for the opening ceremony.
