Triathletes Participate in Aquathlon Pool Water Test Event Today

Timson Jude and Adriana Tukuvia were the first triathletes to reach the finishing line in the men’s and women’s aquathlon trial event today at the aquatic centre.

The event was organized by the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) Sports Delivery Team with support from the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS) as a venue test event for triathletes in the triathlon sport.

GOC Triathlon Cluster Manager Serah Gale said today’s trail event was purposely to see how well the triathletes will begin their competition race from the pool water and set for the bike and distance races to the finishing line.

“This is the first indoor setting for this particular sport, beginning the race in pool water instead of open water.

“The event is also for the police traffic team to see how they can control traffic during the distance race and for technical officials and volunteers,” Mrs. Gale said.

Triathlon Coach Nathan Siofa said he is satisfied with the test event despite the bad weather and commends the triathletes for performing to their expectations and all those officials behind the scenes.

“Today we did a trail aquathlon race instead of a triathlon race because of the bad weather. It gives the triathletes a feel for the actual games in the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, Team Solomon triathletes remain confident and look forward to performing at their best during the games.
