The newly constructed ‘Iumi Water Sports Park’ at DC Park had its first taste of events as the Solomon Islands Sailing Federation (SISF) held its Sailing Championship test event for the Team Solomon athletes, technical officials and volunteers as they gear up for the SOL2023 Pacific Games.

More-so, the two-day event was a rehearsal for both the volunteers and the organizers as they gain valuable insights ahead of the Pacific Games sailing competition which kicks-off on Monday November 20th.

The test event kicked-off with a technical meeting conducted by Sailing Technical Officers for the athletes, NTO’s, SSVs, boat skippers and the SCMs all going through their roles and tasks that will help to deliver a successful Pacific Games.

The participants also had a session on the field of play (FOP) where they discussed on the setting of the race course, positioning of buoys and reading of the wind direction and the sea current.

Meanwhile, the championship featured a total of nine athletes with Royal Epa claiming gold in the individual male laser while Maree Austin came out winner in the woman’s category with the medals and prizes sponsored by Our Telekom.
