The country’s medalist long distance runner, Martin Faeni, continues his reign in the men’s 10,000-meter finals of the Solomon Islands National Athletics Championships held at the new running track at the National Stadium.

The Solomon Games silver medalist clocked a finishing time of 34:10.69, his runner-up, Dales Nonikana, clocking a time of 34:14.78, which is just 2 seconds difference, and Geejay Junior, who managed a time of 34:27:79.

Speaking after the race, Faeni expressed his appreciation of race tracks and also shared his thoughts on his need to improve his pace and speed.

“I am happy about today’s result and the new tracks.

“I need to work on my speed and am confident to shine during the games next month.”

The athlete has represented Solomon Islands recently at the 44th World Athletics Cross Country Championships, in Australia early this year, and XXII Commonwealth Games in England and Pacific Games in Saipan last year.

The three-day athletic event acts as a national selection trial for athletes in both track and field events for para athletes.

More athletic action will continue tomorrow.
