The Sol2023 Pacific Games Ambassadors tour will officially end this end.

Launched in early March this year, the nationawide tour which is part of the Sol2023 Games Organizing Committee (GOC)’s Community Engagement Strategy has reached each and every province throughout Solomon Islands, touching and inspiring many potential athletes in some of the country’s most remote areas.

A total of ten local former athletes have been part of the program, visiting their own home provinces, including Honiara City.

“The Ambassadors program has truly been a success. It provided the opportunity for our former athletes and Pacific Games medalist to go back and share their experiences with the younger generation.

“It also gave them the recognition they deserve in being sporting icons of Solomon Islands,” GOC’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Jacqueline Maeli said.

The final provinces and areas reached late last month (July) and early August included Malaita, Honiara City and Northwest Guadalcanal.

The Ambassadors completing those tours were former national soccer icons; Batram Suri and Timothy Inifiri, and former national long distance champion, Chris Votu.

Meanwhile the Ambassadors program will be concluded with a speech contest in its honor.

“The purpose of this speech contest is to ensure that the Ambassadors program ends on the highest note possible. We are giving our students the opporutnity to write up their speeches based on the program and what it is to be an ambassador.

“It also provides students the opportunity to write about sports and its significance to our people, especially those we regard and consider as our sporting ambassadors,” GOC Media Officer, Ezmie Oge revealed.

The speech contest finals will take place at the Friendship Hall Multipurpose Hall from 1:00pm to 4:00pm tomorrow (Sunday 6th August, 2023).

It will feature a total of 11 high school students presenting their speeches and judged in two categories; the Senior Category (forms 4, 5 and 6) and the Junior Category (forms 1, 2 and 3).

Do check out the Sol2023 XVII Facebook page for the list of speech contest finalists.
