GOC announce ‘School Speech Competition’

Guguha School

The Sol2023 Pacific Games Organizing Committee (GOC) is pleased to announce the first ever “School Speech Competition” it is organizing for high school students throughout Solomon Islands.

The topic for the speech competition is: “Being a Pacific Games Ambassador” – How would you share your story to motivate the younger generation?

“This speech competition initiative very much aligns with the Games Ambassadors program. It is part of raising awareness about sports, advocating for sports and educating our school children about sports and the Pacific Games.

“The competition also serves to mark the end of the Ambassadors nationwide tour around Solomon Islands this month (July) – which has seen a host of former athletes and Pacific Games medalists travel around the country, providing awareness about the Games and advocating for sports to our young people in the provinces and in Honiara,” GOC Media Officer, Ezmie Oge revealed.

Competition entries will be submitted and judged in two categories with very attractive prizes up for grabs. They include;

• Junior Category (Forms 1, 2 & 3)
 1st Prize: $3,000 (sbd)
 2nd Prize: $2,000 (sbd)
 3rd Prize: $1,500 (sbd)

• Senior Category (Forms 4, 5 & 6)
 1st Prize: $3,000 (sbd)
 2nd Prize: $2,000 (sbd)
 3rd Prize: $1,500 (sbd)

Consolation prices will also be given out to participants.

“All entries must be written in English, must be within the range of 600 to 800 words and are to be submitted before the closing date of 31st July.

“The top 10 selected speeches from both categories will be announced and given the opportunity to present in front of judging panel following the closing date,” Ms Oge revealed.

Entries are to be addressed to the Games Organizing Committee and can either be emailed to (media@sol2023.com.sb), mailed to (P.O Box 2443, Honiara) or dropped off at the GOC Head Office at Seaking Building in Honiara before 31st July, 2023.

This speech competition is supported by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
