January 2023, marks 10 months out before Honiara, the capital City of Solomon Islands play host to the XVII Pacific Games set to take place between 19th November and 2nd December this year.
The Games Organizing Committee (GOC) this week resumed official duties in its efforts and preparations to successfully host the best Pacific Games Solomon Islands can deliver come November 19th.
This year’s Games (the biggest international sporting event Solomon Islands will have ever hosted) will bring together more than 5000 plus athletes and officials from across 24 Pacific Island countries and territories to compete in 24 different sports in Honiara.
Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare had previously assured the region that preparations for this year’s Games were on track, with all Games infrastructure expected to be completed by July of this year.
Mr Sogavare said, “I believe Solomon Islands is reasonably in good shape in our preparation and readiness to host the 2023 Pacific Games.”
The Prime Minister said that all sports venues, accommodation and infrastructure will be completed in time before the start of this year’s Games, adding that Solomon Islands will do everything it can to ensure the 2023 XVII Pacific Games is a success.
