Athletics
5 Days Competition
Athletics consists of both track and field competitions and have been held at every Pacific Games since the inaugural edition of 1963 in Suva, Fiji and also at every Pacific Mini Games since the inaugural edition 1981 in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Both events are open for the 22 member federations of the Pacific Games Council. The Pacific Games started as South Pacific Games and were renamed in 2011, while the Pacific Mini Games started as South Pacific Mini Games and were renamed in 2009.

Body Building
Bodybuilding, a regimen of exercises designed to enhance the human body’s muscular development and promote general health and fitness. As a competitive activity, bodybuilding aims to display in artistic fashion pronounced muscle mass, symmetry, and definition for overall aesthetic. Body building has been contested 5 times in the South Pacific Games since first staged in 1995.

Football
14 Days Competition
Football Association has been regularly included in the Pacific Games, the multi-sports event for Pacific nations, territories and dependencies, since 1963.
Since 1971 the men’s tournament has been held every four years, but was not played in 1999 due to contractual issues. In 2007, the men’s competition doubled as the Oceania Football Confederation’s preliminary qualifying competition for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The men’s tournament also became the Olympic qualifier for Oceania for the 2015 edition.
The women’s tournament was introduced in 2003, and has doubled up as the preliminary qualifying competition for the Olympic Games since 2007. Football was a compulsory inclusion at the Pacific Games for men’s teams for many years but was made a core sport for both men’s and women’s teams in 2017. Football has also been held at several editions of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the first tournament in 1981.

Golf will be played at the Pacific Games, The Golf sport has been contested since 1969, when the sport was included as one of the fifteen sports at the Third South Pacific Games held in Port Moresby, (PNG)
The Men’s and women’s tournaments were contested by teams of four golfers per country, and medals were awarded for individual and team winners. Golf has also been included in many previous Pacific Mini Games, started with the second edition held at Rarotonga in 1985.

Japanese Judo was created in1882 by Kano Jigoro Shihan and became an official Olympic Sport in 1964. It was first included in the third South Pacific Games in 1969 and has been staged in 11 South pacific Games since introduced. it is being contested as weight Classes as well as open divisions for both Men and women.

Karate
Karate was first staged in the Pacific Games in 1995. It has then been contested in 5 Pacific Games in which the latest of that was in 2015 which was hosted by Papua New Guinea. Games 2023 will be the sixth time for which it will be contested with different weight divisions for both Men and women. There are also open Team events.

5 Days Competition

Power Lifting
The Powerlifting Sport is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. It has been contested in the pacific Games since 1995 which makes it 6 times staged till present. According to PGC Charter, A maximum of eight competitors spread throughout the range of the eight bodyweight categories for men and a maximum of eight competitors throughout the range of seven bodyweight categories for women. There must not be more than two competitors from any one nation in any particular bodyweight category.

Rugby 7
3 Days Competition
Rugby union at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when included as one of ten sports at the first games held in Suva, Fiji. Rugby sevens is the form of rugby now played at the Pacific Games, with men’s and women’s tournaments included in the current schedule. The women’s competition was added for the first time at the 2011 Pacific Games held in Nouméa. Prior to the late 1990s the men’s tournament at the South Pacific Games, as it was then known, was contested by national rugby union teams.
The shorter tournament structure of rugby sevens being better suited to multi-sports events led to the change of format. In 2014, Australia and New Zealand were invited to participate in some events for the 2015 Pacific Games, and the Australian women’s sevens team was subsequently confirmed as a competitor for the women’s tournament in Port Moresby. Rugby sevens is also played at the Pacific Mini Games, and was included for the first time at Pago Pago in 1997.

Rugby League 9
3 Days Competition
Rugby league was introduced to the Pacific Games in 2007 at Apia in Samoa. Rugby league nines is the form of the game currently played at the Pacific Games. The 7-a-side version of the game was played at the 2009 Pacific Mini Games.

Rugby Touch
6 Days Competition
Touch rugby at the 2003 South Pacific Games in Suva was held on 7–10 July 2003. Fiji won the finals of the men’s and mixed tournaments to claim both gold medals on offer. Touch rugby for women was not introduced until the 2009 Pacific Mini Games held in Rarotonga.

Taekwondo
Taekwondo was developed by General Choi in the 1940’s of Korea. Taekwondo at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1995 when it was introduced for the tenth edition at Papeete, Tahiti. Women’s taekwondo was added in 1999 for the games held in Guam. The men’s and women’s individual competitions have eight weight classes each in accordance with World Taekwondo classifications as of 2019.There are also teams events for men’s and women’s competition.

Weightlifting
Weightlifting, is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete vying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. It is one of the compulsory sports to be contested in the south Pacific games and was first staged in 1966 which means it has been contested 16 times till present. There are 10 different weight classes for Both Men and Women.
